There is a question I’ve been asking people for years.
If knowing changed people… wouldn’t we already be different?
Most of us already know far more than we consistently live.
We know we should have the difficult conversation. We know listening is more valuable than defending. We know our relationships would improve if we became more present. We know we should take better care of ourselves. We know our word matters.
Knowing has rarely been the problem.
Somewhere along the way, many people began believing that if they could gather enough information, they would naturally become different people. So they read another book, listen to another podcast, attend another seminar, or make another list. Their understanding grows, but their lives don’t necessarily change.
Why?
Because information doesn’t transform a person. A different Way of Being does.
There is an important distinction between understanding patience and being patient. Understanding courage and being courageous. Understanding integrity and being your word.
One lives in your thinking. The other lives in your life.
I’ve watched people leave conversations completely convinced they need to change. For a few days, they do. Then something familiar happens. Stress shows up. Someone disappoints them. Life gets busy. Without even realizing it, they return to the same reactions, the same conversations, and the same results.
Not because they forgot what they learned. Because information alone rarely changes the person who is living their life.
This week, I’d invite you to notice something. Where do you already know exactly what to do?
And what might become possible if the conversation wasn’t about learning something new, but about becoming someone different?
